Another Army officer killed in ongoing Zamboanga gunbattle
MANILA, Philippines—Another Army junior officer was killed as clashes between government troops and members of Moro National Liberation Front reached its 16th day on Tuesday in Zamboanga City.
First Lieutenant Francis Damian sustained fatal gunshot wounds during a gunbattle with the Moro rebels in Brgy. Sta. Barbara. He died on Tuesday morning at Ciudad Zamboanga Hospital, Army spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Randolph Cabangbang said.
A graduate of the Philippine Military Academy Class of 2007, the 28-year-old Damian was assigned with the Army’s 3rd Light Reaction Company of the Special Operations Command.
Damian, who hailed from Quezon City, was married. He was the third officer to die from the Zamboanga fighting. All of them were junior officers.
