BAGHDAD—Iraqi officials say a suicide bomber driving a car has crashed into a barrier outside a police building in central Iraq, killing at least 10 people.

A police official says the bomber hit when the police were changing shifts on Thursday in the city of Hillah, south of the capital Baghdad.

He says the force of the blast knocked over some of the concrete barriers that surround the building.

The official put the number of dead at 10 and said 30 people were wounded. Another police officer said 13 people were killed and 35 wounded. Such conflicting numbers are common in the chaotic aftermath of attacks in Iraq.

The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk to the media.
