It’s time for Metro Manila’s top police officials to start hitting the books.

The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) has announced that it would soon be implementing a “balik-eskwela” (back to school) program for city police chiefs.

“I have just talked to the people concerned to come up with [the] program,” NCRPO head Chief Supt. Marcelo Garbo Jr. said during the fifth NCRPO command conference held at Mandaluyong City Hall last week.

He added that the program would serve as a refresher course for police officials on basic criminal investigation and intelligence.

Garbo said an attaché of the US Federal Bureau of Investigation had also volunteered to brief police officials on crisis incident management.

He stressed that the position of chief of police was very important and they should automatically know what to do when it comes to investigating a crime or dealing with a crisis or emergency.

“That’s why I came up with the ‘balik-aral’ program. I want to jolt your hearts to lead, to do your best because it seems like [you are not exerting enough effort],” Garbo said.

He added that the venue of the refresher course would vary and would likely be done on a “rotational basis” among the different police districts in the metropolis.
