Cop killed in Misamis Oriental clash
MANILA, Philippines—Authorities said that a police officer was killed while fighting off rebels that attacked a police station in Misamis Oriental Thursday.
Philippine National Police spokesman Chief Superintendent Agrimero Cruz Jr. said that Senior Officer 1 Editho Bayhon died defending their police station in Medina, Misamis Oriental from rebels who attacked the station at 5:45 p.m.
Cruz said that around 20 armed rebels harassed the police station, killing Bayhon and wounding SPO2 Rene Rombo, SPO1 Alvin Tejano and SPO1 Diosdado Sendiong Jr. He said that one of the rebels had also been killed in the encounter.
Cruz said that an ongoing pursuit operation was being conducted by joint elements of the Regional Public Safety Battalion 10 and 8th Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army.
