BARANGAY Ibabao-Estancia in Mandaue City can now host basketball tournaments and other big events after the completion of its P7.5 million multi-purpose gym located within its elementary school complex.
Barangay captain Carmelino del Mar Jr. said the facility, painted yellow, sits on a 660 sq.m. lot and enclosed with steel bars.
The structure, which is funded by the city government has restroom facilities. Standard basketball boards have been put up.
With an electronic scoreboard soon to be installed and existing 16 modern lights, the facility can host games in the evening.
According to del Mar they are scheduled to construct bleachers and have the floor rubberized.
With 1,000 sitting capacity, other events aside from sports can also be held since it has a movable stage.
“I thank the mayor for facilitating the completion of the gym,” said del Mar during last Saturday’s blessing and cutting of ceremonial ribbon with Mayor Jonas Cortes and other barangay officials.
Del Mar said the completion is in time for the opening of the annual barangay sportsfest on Sept. 8.
