4 men killed in clash with cops in Cagayan

MANILA, Philippines—Four armed men were killed in an encounter with police in Cagayan Thursday afternoon.

Initial reports from Senior Superintendent Reuben Theodore Sindac, Philippine National Police-Public Information Office chief, said the clash took place in Barangay (village) Centro Northwest, Solana, Cagayan around 1:45 p.m.

He said operatives of the 2nd, 24th and 8th Special Action Company went to the area to check on the reported presence of heavily-armed men when the encounter erupted.

The firefight lasted for about five minutes, Sindac said.

No one was hurt from the government forces, he said, adding that M-16 automatic rifles, two Garand carbines and two .38 caliber revolvers were recovered from the scene of the encounter.

Investigators are still determining the identities of the slain men.
