IN keeping up with the latest innovations in training, ALA Promotions president Michael Aldeguer decided to send world title challenger Milan “El Metodico” Melindo (29-1, 12KOs) and WBO Asia Pacific bantamweight champion Genesis “Azukal” Servania (22-0, 8 KOs) to San Diego, USA to further hone their skills in the soon-to-be-completed ALA Boxing gym there.

Aldeguer also said that aside from sending ALA Boxing Gym’s top fighters to the US, he will also continue their efforts in strengthening the local pool of talents with the launching of the newest boxing reality series dubbed ‘Idol’ (see separate story).

Melindo who gallantly fought and lost to Mexican World Boxing Organization (WBO) and World Boxing Association (WBA) flyweight titleholder Juan Francisco Estrada last July 27 in the co-main event of ‘Fists of Gold II’ in Cotai Arena in Macau, China will train for several months in the United States along with Servania under new conditioning coaches.

“We want to raise the bar, because Mexico right now has the strongest and well conditioned boxers because of the new technology that they apply during training. For us at ALA Promotions and ALA Boxing Gym, we want to innovate and apply the latest technology and learn how it works for our boxers,” Aldeguer said.

Aside from Melindo and Servania, Aldeguer is also planning to include young prospect Jessel Magsayo from Bohol in the US camp.

“The quality of boxing in the country gradually grows and we want to make it better. Manny Pacquiao, Nonito Donaire and Brian Viloria all trained in the US and were exposed to high-caliber sparring and new scientific training regimens. I believe its about time we adopt the same program for us to be more globally competitive,” said Aldeguer. /CORRESPONDENT DALE G. ROSAL
