/ 07:31 AM July 16, 2013

AS part of its commitment to support the needs of persons with disabilities (PWDs), SM City Cebu will join the whole nation in celebrating the 35th National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week on July 21-27.

This year’s theme “Building an inclusive and non-handicapping environment for persons with disabilities” aims to engage the sector itself as the claim holders and government agencies and non-government organizations as duty-bearers towards a fuller participation of citizens with disabilities.

The theme recognizes the importance of PWDs enjoying the same rights and opportunities as everyone else.

The week-long observance will start with a Holy Mass on July 21 at 9 a.m. at the Northwing Atrium. The Fully Abled Nation exhibit will open on July 22 at the third level of the main mall fronting Max’s Restaurant. Free massage services from blind therapists are offered at the upper ground floor (former Mang Inasal) from July 22 to 23. A basic deaf arts workshop by the Cebu Association of the Deaf will be held from 10 a.m. to noon at the Event Centre. A “Braile: a PWD Talent Showcase” takes place on July 26 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Event Centre.
