Senior Inspector Harry Gubat, police chief of Parang, said the shooting was triggered by a deeply rooted family feud involving Muslim families in Barangay (village) Sarmiento.

Gubat said the attackers in the second shooting incident were believed to be relatives of the two victims in the earlier attack Sunday.

Gubat said the protagonists were relatives and related by blood and by affinity and who were all keeping personal grudges against each other, known among Muslims as “rido” or clan war.

To prevent the escalation of the supposed family feud, Gubat said he deployed peacekeeping forces in Barangay Sarmiento, where the feuding families live.
