Pangasinan town councilor survives ambush

DAGUPAN CITY, Pangasinan—A councilor in Binalonan, Pangasinan, survived a gun attack by two men on a motorcycle on Friday morning, police said.

Councilor Oscar Evangelista, 68, was driving his Volkswagen Beetle on the national highway at about 8:30 a.m. when the motorcycle drove by, and one of the riders fired at him.

Chief Insp. Benjamin Ariola, Binalonan police chief, said Evangelista was wounded on the right thigh and was treated at the town’s rural health unit.

Ariola said the assailants, who rode a black motorcycle without plates, sped off in the direction of Urdaneta City.
