Barangay captain killed, cousin wounded in Batangas shooting
BATANGAS CITY, Philippines–A barangay captain died while his cousin was wounded when an unidentified assailant fired at them in Taal town, Batangas on Friday night, the police said.
Senior Inspector Norman Cas-Oy, Taal police chief, on Saturday identified the victims as Arnel Marcellana, chief of Barangay Cawit, and his cousin, Benjie Marcellana.
Investigation showed that the victims had just finished watching a concert at about 9:50 p.m. Friday when they were attacked by the lone gunman.
Arnel was rushed to a hospital but was declared dead on arrival while Benjie underwent treatment.
The suspect fled on foot with the .45 cal. pistol used in the killing.
Police recovered six empty shells at the crime scene.

He added that Arnel was a known supporter of Lino Vicente Montenegro, a mayoral candidate under Lakas-CMD. Lino Vicente’s opponent for the seat is the incumbent mayor, Michael Montenegro, under Liberal Party.
