MANILA, Philippines — Re-electionist Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim said he is willing to withdraw from the mayoral race if he fails to prove that he is a Filipino citizen, an old issue that has been resuscitated by his rival, former President Joseph Estrada.
But if he could prove otherwise, Lim said it should be Estrada who should withdraw from the race.
“Kapag hindi ko maipakita ang birth certificate ko, magwi-withdraw ako. Pag naipakita ko naman, mag-withdraw naman sya,” he told reporters before the miting de avance of his team held at the Plaza Hernandez in Tondo.
(If I can’t’ show my birth certificate, I will withdraw [from the race]. But if I can show it, he should withdraw.)
“Kala ko ba ang tapang-tapang ng taong ito. Sa pelikula matapang siguro. E yan ang problema natin e,” he added.
(I thought this man is fearless. In the movies perhaps. That’s the problem with some of us.)
Lim also dared Estrada to do a house-to-house campaign on depressed areas if his slogan “Erap Para sa Mahirap” is true.
