MANILA, Philippines—Hundreds of people mostly wearing yellow shirts flocked at the Plaza Hernandez in Tondo, Manila on Thursday for the miting de avance of re-electionist Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim’s team.
No less than President Benigno Aquino III attended the gathering.
“Good luck,” Lim said of his rival, former President Joseph Estrada, in an interview with reporters before the event started at around 4pm.
Lim said they chose to hold the miting de avance in Tondo so the people here could see the President and the senatorial bets of the administration’s Team PNoy.
The team, he said, had already been in Plaza Miranda in Quiapo, and in Liwasang Bonifacio near the city hall.
He denied that Tondo was the bailiwick of Estrada, pointing out that he and Aquino both won in this area during the 2010 elections.
Asked then if Tondo was his bailiwick, Lim said: ” Hindi ko rin masasabi yun. Nasa mamamayan yun. Kung inaakala nila kung naging karapat-dapat ako sa tiwalang binibigay nila sa akin, syempre sila ang huhusga.”
Lim appeal to Manila voters to be discerning when they cast their votes on Monday.
“Ang akin lang pakiusap, timbangin nila ang mga sinasabi ng mga kandidato. Alamin nila alin ba ang katotohanan? Alin ang pagkukunwari? Alin yung pagisisinungaling? Alin ang panloloko. Dahil pag nagsisinungaling ka, niloloko mo ang mamayan,” he said.
“It’s about time they should realize, that truth conquers all no matter how it hurts,” Lim added.
