Donayre still unbeaten

YAWYAN ArDigma Cebu and Deftac Cebu fighter Vaughn “The Spawn” Donayre extended his winning streak to six and remained undefeated after he escaped Ilonggo Rex Delara in last Saturday night’s Universal Reality Combat Championships (URCC) Unrivaled at the SMX Convention Center in Manila.

Donayre captured the win against former URCC title contender Delara via split decision.

“It was a tough fight,” said Donayre. “He countered me with a lot of punches but I managed to score more in the first and second rounds. I was almost gassed out in the last round but I manage to take control of the fight. Delara was very tough.”

Donayre said he connected accurate knee strikes to Delara several times in the first and second rounds, including take downs that gave him crucial points. He was also the aggressor in the bout with the latter waiting to counter him every time he attacked.

Donayre scored a first-round knockout against Baguio’s Robert Buminaang in his previous bout last March. /CORRESPONDENT DALE G. ROSAL
