Daang tops Labor Day 65K run

Robert Daang proved that he is not just lethal in short-distance races as he emerged the fastest in a 65-kilometer run from Cebu City to Toledo City dubbed the 3rd Labor Day Coast-to-Coast Ultra Marathon yesterday.

The race started midnight of Saturday at the  Cebu Provincial Capitol grounds as runners battled their way through the Transcentral Highway en route to Toledo City, western Cebu.

At the end of the race yesterday, Daang came out on top as he finished the grueling run in six hours, 31 minutes and two seconds.

Rhoda Oporto, on the other hand,  lorded the distaff side with a time of eight hours, 36 minutes and 55 seconds.

FEATURED STORIES

Out of 105 participants, 66 crossed the finish line within the cutoff time of 13 hours. The rest finished  beyond the given cutoff time.

Winners received a medal and a finisher’s shirt each. No cash prizes were given.

Trailing Daang in second place was Herman Quanico, who finished in six hours, 57 minutes and  20 seconds. Jimmy Yu rounded off the top three male finishers with a time of seven hours, 31 minutes and 25 seconds.

Frejie Laude placed second in the women’s side with a time of nine hours, 11 minutes and 42 seconds  while Jocelyn Grimard captured third place, clocking  10 hours, 31 minutes and 15 seconds.

In the relay category, the tandem of multi-titled Noel Tillor and Sherwin Managuil took the crown after finishing with a combined time of six hours, 31 minutes and one second.

Saturnino and Johnriel Goles’s tandem finished second with a time of eight hours, 12 minutes and 39 seconds while Melanie Mares and June Ocana (8:27:40) wound up third.
