THE GAISANO Capital South-University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters are showing maturity and resiliency as they overhauled a double-digit deficit and toppled the San Marino Corned Tuna-Cebu Institute of Technology University (CIT-U) Wildcats, 81-75, in the 2013 Enervon-Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) Partner’s Cup yesterday at the Cebu Coliseum.
It helps to have a bullstrong and athletic African import on their side as newly acquired Jermaine Noah sparkled once more and had several crucial baskets down the stretch that broke the Wildcats’ backs and powered the Webmasters to their fourth win in five games.
San Marino fell to 2-3 (win-loss). Vincent Menguito led the way for CIT-U with 13 points.
Noah is steadily proving to be the answer to the Webmasters’ prayers as they hope to climb back to the league’s upper echelon following the losses of former league MVP June Mar Fajardo and Mythical Five member Brian Heruela in recent years.
Noah, a bulky yet high-leaping forward, scored a team-high 20 points.
The Webmasters struggled early on and were down, 15-28, with 6:26 remaining in the second period.
However, Noah combined with UC’s vaunted guard rotation led by Kido Cabrera to slice the deficit down before eventually zooming to the victory.
The second game saw the Cebu Landmasters-University of San Carlos score an 86-81 win over the Lion Tiger-University of Southern Philippines Foundation. /correspondent jonas panerio
