iTrabaho.com taps Lapu gov’t for online job site project

Cebu-based online job site iTrabaho.com will be partnering with the Lapu-Lapu City government for an online platform project that will help bridge the gap between job seekers and employers.

iTrabaho managing director John Kim said the company already started talks with Lapu-Lapu City consultant Jonji Gonzales for the project.

“The initial plan was to transfer all its qualified manpower supply listed in the Public Employment Service Office (Peso) and make this listing available online,” said Kim.

In a phone interview, Gonzales confirmed the initial talks and said that he already mentioned the project to Mayor Paz Radaza who gave her support for the project.

digital initiative

“We see this as part of the Lapu-Lapu City’s digital initiative which we think is very relevant to the community,” said Gonzales.

Gonzales added that they planned to set up a meeting soon with iTrabaho and other officials of Lapu-Lapu City to finalize and iron out details of the project.

Aside from the job portal, the Lapu-Lapu city government has now started with initiatives to help their local industries like the QR or Quick Response Codes in their tourist destinations.

Once successfully laid out, Kim said they planned to duplicate the project to other local government units (LGUs) in Cebu as well.

“The company will also propose a partnership with other LGUs in Cebu or in the country. Now, we are starting with Lapu-Lapu City,” he said.

Through the platform, LGUs will be more effective in helping providing employment to their residents because it will use the same convenience and ease in searching and applying for a job that iTrabaho is known for.

“Just like what we offered in iTrabaho, job search where an application will be made online or through text messaging through the ‘text-to-apply’ capability. We would like to create online profile out of their (LGU-PESO) data,” said Kim.

According to Kim, they are ready to implement the site because they already prepared a more localized platform that will fit the requirements of every LGU.

text-to-apply

“Aside from its “Text-To-Apply” feature, a registered job seeker will also be included in the database of iTrabaho.com which employers can look into, without requiring the applicant to upload their resume everytime.”

iTrabaho was first launched in 2011 with a team of Cebuano developers.

At present, the site has registered an average of 90 thousand hits a day, which is growing fast everyday according to Kim fueled by the ease in making applications through text messages.

“The SMS service that we offered has made our company compete more even while there are other existing job sites operating locally in Cebu and the Philippines before them,” said Kim.

Itrabaho has tied up with the Information Communications Technology Council of the Philippines and the Cebu Educational Development for Information Technology (CEDF-IT) here in Cebu.
