Man selling fake dollar bills nabbed in Manila

MANILA, Philippines—The National Bureau of Investigation on Wednesday arrested a man selling fake dollars in Manila,

Melanio Evasco, 53, was arrested carrying 200 pieces of fake US$100 bills in an entrapment operation, said Senior Inspector Raymond Macorol.

Upon receiving information about Evasco’s illegal activities, the NBI’s Criminal Intelligence Division coordinated with special agents from the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas to arrest him.

A lady special agent was designated as a poseur buyer and met with the suspect at a mall in Manila. After confirming that he was selling fake bills, he was taken into custody by the NBI.

A case for violation of Article 168 or illegal possession and use of false treasury or bank notes and other instruments of credit will be filed against Evasco.
