2 hurt as car driven by teenaged girl rams through convenience store in QC
MANILA, Philippines — Two men were injured Wednesday noon when a car driven by the teenage daughter of a sports commentator and amateur boxing group official, accidentally crashed into a convenience store in Quezon City.
Police Officer 2 Michael Rito, of the Quezon City Police District Kamuning traffic sector, identified the wounded men as John Rebarbosa, 23; and Mark Anthony Macabasag, 19, both customers of the 7-11 convenience store at the corner of Edsa and Quezon Avenue.
Rebarbosa sustained a deep cut on his left knee from shards of the store’s shattered glass window while Macabasag suffered a fracture on his right leg. Both men were given emergency medical treatment by responding Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) personnel before they were brought to the East Avenue Medical Center.
The driver of the car that crashed into the 7-11 store was 19-year-old Carissa Picson, daughter of Amateur Boxing Association of the Philippines (ABAP) executive director and veteran sports commentator Ed Picson.
According to Rito, the red Mazda (TMG-750), driven by Carissa, crashed accidentally at around 12:30 p.m., on Wednesday, into the convenience store on the southbound lane of Edsa.
Rito said the teenager was turning right to make a pit stop at a fastfood restaurant near the convenience store when three pedestrians suddenly crossed the driveway to the parking area causing the young driver to quickly step on the brakes. The car surged forward when the teenager mistakenly stepped on the accelerator causing the vehicle to leap over the access ramp and drive through the convenience store, leaving half of its body lodged inside the shop.

While both men were able to jump out of the car’s way, Rebarbosa got cut in the knee by broken glass while Macabasag’s leg was hit by the window’s steel frame.
Rito said that the filing of a case against the teenager would depend on the two injured men and the management of the convenience store.
