Sally Mae advances, sister Sallydine falters in Gullas net

THE Siso siblings suffered contrasting fates in the 21 Under Girls category of the 18th Gullas Tennis Cup yesterday at the Cebu International Tennis Centre Inc. in Laray, Consolacion, Cebu.

While Sally Mae Siso breezed past Christine Bellita, 6-1, 6-0, to advance to semifinal round, her older sister, Sallydine, succumbed to Elgy Dasian, 0-6, 4-6.

With the upset, Dasian will next face Keziah Jabines, who barged into the semis with no sweat after Bianca Cenabre failed to show up for their match.

Sally Mae Siso will contest a finals ticket against Grace Melchor, who dismissed Mary Claire Lazaga, 7-5, 6-4.

Dasian and Jabines will meet for the second time as both also advanced to the semifinals of the 18 Under Girls.

Dasian outsmarted Cherry Mae Toledo, 6-2, 6-0, while Jabines booted out Kristina Dicdican, 6-1, 6-0.

Jana Pages also clinched a semifinals ticket with straight sets blanking of Joy Marie Colonia. She will next face the winner between Ma. Sheena Camporedondo and Lazaga. Their game will be played today.

In the 16 Under Girls, Zethley Mae Alferez became the first semifinalists after a 6-2, 6-1 beating of Camporedondo.

Also clinching the first semifinals ticket in the 14 Under Girls was Kristin Renee Salimbangon, who had no trouble in dismissing Tamara Kaye Suquib, 6-1, 6-0.

In the 12 Under Girls, Cristella Sampan clinched a semifinals ticket with a 6-0, 6-0 routing of Mary Therese Cabigon while Mary Nathalie Cobarde joined her after a 6-1, 6-3 thrashing of Jean Rica Banares.

Pherl Bless Coderos and Suquib also barged into the semifinals via a walkover win.

In the boys division, Joshua Kinaadman grabbed a quarterfinals ticket with an easy 6-0, 6-1 demolition of Rjay Yaranon.

Joining him in the final 4 are Jarryd Laurel, who defeated Christian Seth Rabuya, 6-1, 6-2; Marc Norman Enriquez, who blanked Jarred Codilla, 6-0, 6-0; and Christian Dale Soon, who advanced via a walk over against Fritz Satera.

In the 16 Under, Manila’s Elijah Arevalo comfortably settled into the semifinal round with a 6-3, 6-1 annihilation of Gener Francis Lambayan. Both netters advanced into the quarterfinal round when their opponents failed to show up for their matches.

Lambayan kept his title hopes alive with a quarterfinal entry in the 14 Under. He dumped Dave Villarba, 6-0, 6-0.

He will go up against Rey Dante Toledo, who advanced via a 6-1, 6-1 lambasting of Rommel Lopez.

In the 12 Under, advancing to the quarterfinals are Heart Sotto, Jace Unto, Gabriel Trazo, Ashton Villanueva, Ryusei Kimura, Harland Hogan and Cesar Salimbangon.
