MANILA, Philippines—Politics may likely be behind a Social Weather Stations survey recently presented by the Liberal Party candidate which showed that 81 percent of Filipinos are “satisfied with their lives,” opposition senatorial candidate Richard “Dick” Gordon said Wednesday.
Speaking to reporters during the sidelines of United Nationalist Alliance’s proclamation rally for its local bets in Makati City, Gordon said the survey is a “tool” that is allegedly being used as a “propaganda” by the administration for the upcoming election.
Gordon questioned the seemingly “timely” release of the survey, quoting Archbishop Oscar Cruz as saying that the survey was conducted December.
“Bakit ngayong April ilalabas? Nakita niyo ang propaganda? (Why did they release it only in April? Did you see the propaganda?)” Gordon said.
Liberal Party bet, former Senator Jamby Madrigal said Tuesday that an SWS poll conducted on December 8 to 11 last year showed that four out of five, or 81 percent, said they are satisfied with their lives.
She said the result goes to show that majority of Filipinos feel that the government is working for them.
Gordon cited lack of jobs available to the public, as well as the power crisis in Mindanao and the Sabah issue.
“Are they happy . . .you don’t have to have a survey to do that . . . Even Ramon Ang . . . Shell is unhappy . . . Happy ba yan?” Gordon said.
