UV cagers bounce back in ThreeSixty hoopfest
THE University of the Visayas quickly bounced back from a tough loss in their last outing and vented their ire on the Palarong Pambansa-bound CVIRAA squad, 60-51, in Group A action in the under-19 division of the 2013 ThreeSixty Pharmacy Cup-Cebu Youth Basketball League Season 6 last Tuesday at the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu basketball courts along Mango Avenue.
UV delivered when it needed to as they made a host of three-pointers that gave them the crucial win to push them into the semifinals.
Ralph Dinolan, JC Escalona, Prince Canete and Limitares scorched the net with five triples for UV’s first points of the fourth period to erect a commanding 58-44 lead with 1:46 left. Dinolan led UV with 24 points. Rendell Senining led CVIRAA with 26.
In what is shaping up to be a mad race for Group A’s top two slots, UV is now tied with CVIRAA and USPF with identical 2-1 records followed by USJ-R (1-2) and Adgers (0-2).
In contrast, the semifinal slots in Group B have already been taken by the Athletes for Christ in Excellent Service (ACES) and the UV-U16 teams.
In the other game, SHS-Ateneo 2 wrapped up its elimination round campaign with a 37-31 win over Lucky 40. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
