Enrile ouster unlikely even LP clinches Senate majority in polls – UNA bet

MANILA, Philippines — Even if the Liberal Party-led (LP) coalition manages to grab the majority of the top 12 Senate seats on Election Day, Nancy Binay said that it still would not be enough of a threat for Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile.

In an interview with reporters before UNA’s motorcade around the fourth district of Quezon City, Binay said there was little guarantee that Team PNoy bets would still be a solid team once they secure seats in the Senate.

“Yung samahan sa kabila hindi katulad ng sa amin (Their company is not like ours). Walang guarantee na pagdating sa Senado they will still follow [the LP] (There’s no guarantee that when they made it to the Senate…),” said Binay, daughter of Vice President Jejomar Binay.

She was reacting to a Philippine Daily Inquirer story which quoted Senator Sergio Osmeña III, one of the strategists of the LP-led coalition, as saying that 14 to 15 allies would be enough to replace Enrile and take over the Senate.

“At the end of the day, iba yung Nacionalista, yung NPC (Nationalist People’s Coalition) at iba pa rin ang Liberal (Nacionalista, NPC may switch loyalties),” said Binay.

She was also confident that they still had enough numbers to be elected as senators on Election Day, even if UNA lagged behind the LP-led coalition in the latest Pulse Asia and Social Weather Stations (SWS) surveys.
