Truck falls off river, 4 hurt

FOUR persons were injured when a truck fell into a river in barangay Lagtang, Talisay City, southern Cebu.

Police said the driver, Carlito Salazar Jr. of barangay Cogon-Pardo, Cebu City, was negotiating an uphill portion of a road in sitio Tigib when he lost control of the wheel Monday afternoon.

The truck moved backwards and fell into the river.

The passengers, Rodel Maravillas, 52; Leonardo Pepito, 47; Elizabeth Caballero, 37; and Silverio Ignacio, 45, sustained bruises and were treated at the Talisay City District Hospital.

 Laborer found hanging dead

A 25-YEAR-OLD house painter was found hanging dead in his house in barangay Camputhaw, Cebu City.

Police said there were no signs of foul play in the death of Alvin Casas, who had a misunderstanding with his live-in partner before he was found dead early morning Monday.

Police said the man’s mother went to her son’s room on the second floor of the house but couldn’t open the door.

The mother called her husband, who forcibly opened the door by kicking it and saw his son suspended from a wooden  beam with a nylon rope tied around his neck./Correspondent Tweeny M. Malinao

Man shot dead by neighbor

A 58-YEAR-OLD man was shot and killed by his neighbor in barangay Mantalongon, Dalaguete town, southern Cebu.

A personal grudge could be the motive of the attack, police said.

Police said the victim, Jose Barcena Geolin, and the suspect, Rosendo Beldad, a truck boy, had a drinking session on Monday night.

Police said Beldad left the group around 8 p.m. He returned a few minutes later and without a word shot Geolin in the abdomen.
