MANILA, Philippines — The Bicol Region was forecast to experience heavy rain this weekend due to the effect of the shear line, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.
The state weather agency’s satellite image showed thick cloud bands in the eastern section of the country, which signifies cloudy skies and rainfall.
Pagasa expert Chenel Dominguez said heavy to intense rain showers of 100-200 millimeters were predicted to occur Friday in Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon, and Northern Samar.
The same conditions were likewise anticipated on Saturday in Catanduanes and Albay, as well as Camarines Norte and Camarines Sur.
Also on Friday, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Romblon, Aklan, Samar, Eastern Samar, and Biliran were seen to have 50-100 mm of rain, which entails a yellow rainfall warning.

This yellow rainfall warning will continue to prevail in Quezon, Sorsogon, Masbate, and Northern Samar until Saturday.
On Sunday, 50-100 mm of rain was forecast for Quezon and the entire Bicol Region, including Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Albay, Sorsogon, and Catanduanes.
During Pagasa’s Friday morning weathercast, Dominguez said that the northeast monsoon, locally termed amihan, and intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) will still bring overcast skies with rain showers to many parts of the country.
The ITCZ will affect Caraga and Davao Region with cloudy skies, scattered rains, and isolated thunderstorms on Friday.

The northeast monsoon will cause cloudy skies with rains in Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, and Central Luzon.
Friday’s weather in the Visayas and Mimaropa will be influenced by the shear line, triggering overcast skies with scattered rain showers and isolated thunderstorms.
Dominguez added that the country will be low-pressure area-free in the next five days.
“We have not monitored any low-pressure area inside or outside our [Philippine area of responsibility] that could possibly affect our country within the next five days,” she noted.
