Golf nips Echo for 8th win in Cekalco

TEAM Golf claimed its eighth win in 12 games after nipping Echo, 89-86 in overtime Friday night to share the lead with powerhouse Delta and Hotel in the Center Katipunan A. Lopez Christian Organization (CEKALCO)-2013 2nd Season basketball tournament.

Donald Catong orchestrated Echo’s strong start by firing 13 of his 22 points in the opening period for a, 26-19 advantage and padded their lead to double-digits, 47-37, at the half.

However, Golf responded with a, 22-18 run in the third to close the gap, 59-65, heading into the final quarter.

Golf finally caught up with Echo at 77-all in the final 1:15 on Edward Barellano’s shot then grabbed a, 78-77 advantage in the last 50 seconds on Kit Arellano’s split charities. But Donald Catong also split his gift shots that ended the regulation period with the score tied at 78-all.

FEATURED STORIES

In the extension period, Golf outscored Echo, 11-8 for the win.

Kit Arellano led Golf with 25 points while Edward Barellano and Gino Almencion combined for 35 markers. Donald Catong paced Echo with 22 points.

In the other game, Hotel was leading by 13 points, 46-35 against Alpha when the game was stopped due to heavy rains.
