Lapu karatekas to see action in Singapore

THE International Shotokan Karatedo Federation (ISKF) Lapu-Lapu chapter of Reynan Vidal along with three of his best karatekas will fly to Singapore on March 8 to represent the country in the prestigious Second Singapore International Open of the Singapore Karatedo Federation.

This after ISKF Philippines director and national team coach for karatedo David Lay tapped Vidal and his players to join Team Philippines in the Singapore meet. The tournament will last until March 11th.

Vidal will field his children, Rafael and Ayana to compete along with Kent Juban who was been recruited to the national team after bagging two bronze medals at last year’s First Philippine-Karatedo Federation-National Sports Association (PKF-NSA) held in PhilSports Arena in Metro Manila.

Rafael Vidal and his sister are young karatekas but are also veterans in local tournaments. Vidal’s players also shone in last year’s Batang Pinoy by bagging most of the gold medals in the kata and kumite categories.

Lay for his part will field his son Alex Lay, Bryan Fontillas and Charles Banagua.

Vidal and Lay were reportedly invited by Singapore Karatedo Association’s president Peter Chong to join the prestigious tournament to be held in Singapore’s Jurong East Sports Hall. /CORRESPONDENT DALE G. ROSAL
