Six-foot-nine Japeth Aguilar faces his former team when Globalport Batang Pier takes on the Talk ‘N Text Tropang Texters today in the 38th PBA Commissioner’s Cup at the Araneta Coliseum.

The separation of Aguilar and the Texters was somewhat controversial as the former Ateneo Blue Eagle requested to be traded due to minimal playing time with the team.

Aguilar’s transfer to Globalport was sealed while he was in the US trying his luck to get into the NBA.

Globalport is off to a 2-1 (win-loss) start in the conference with Aguilar churning in solid numbers.

Batang Pier started the tournament with a 94-92 win over the Petron Blaze Boosters with Aguilar scattering 16 points, nine rebounds, four blocked shots, three assists and two steals.

Globalport could have easily gone 3-0 but suffered a major collapse in their second outing, squandering a 10-point lead in the final two minutes en route to a sorry 88-98 overtime loss to the Barako Bull Energy Colas.

In that game, Aguilar finished with a team-high 23 points and added 10 rebounds and two assists.

Globalport bounced back from that loss with a 89-80 victory over the Barangay Ginebra Kings with Aguilar contirbuting nine rebounds, eight points, two assists, two steals and two blocked shots.
