Watch out for heavy rains, floods in NCR on Thursday, Friday – Pagasa
MANILA, Philippines — The state weather bureau on Tuesday afternoon warned of possible heavy rainfall, flooding, and other hazards to life and property in Metro Manila on Thursday and Friday due to the enhanced southwest monsoon or “habagat.”
In separate impact-based advisories issued at 3 p.m., the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said that “[a]s local impacts may vary from location to location, the public and local authorities are advised to take all necessary measures to mitigate the impacts of heavy rainfall and flooding in your respective localities.”

Pagasa warned of “minor” and “significant” impacts of the southwest monsoon in Metro Manila on Thursday and Friday.
It said that the following impacts are expected on Thursday and Friday:
- Several health facilities may be damaged
- Mino to serious r injuries and danger to life may be expected
- A few houses and buildings, mostly makeshift or made of unreinforced light materials, may sustain slight, moderate to extensive damage
- Few consumer connections may experience electric power interruptions
- Water services may be interrupted in some areas
- Some disruptions in road, rail, sea, and air transportation may be expected, with a few passengers stranded. Some journeys may take longer than usual

Hence, Pagasa advised the public of the following precautionary measures:
- Stay indoors and stay tuned for the latest news and weather updates
- Do not touch electrical equipment if you are wet or standing in floodwater
- Do not go swimming or boating in swollen rivers
- Do not cross streams when the water level is already above the knee
- Do not walk or drive through flooded areas
- Leave the evacuation area only when authorities say it is safe to return home
- Report fallen trees and electric posts to proper authorities
- Check for wet or submerged electrical outlets and appliances before turning on the electricity
- Check your house for possible damage and repair as necessary
- Make sure that the food and water for drinking are not contaminated by flood water
- Dispose rainwater in cans, pots, and tires to prevent breeding of mosquitoes
