Single mom asks for help for special child

Gwyneth Merih Co Yu

Seven-year-old Gwyneth Merih Co Yu has recently been diagnosed with autism, a condition that requires her to undergo various kinds of therapy.

“My daughter needs aqua therapy to calm her down, speech therapy for her speech difficulty and occupational therapy to correct her behavior  but we don’t have the money,” Esther, Gwyneth’s mother, said.

Esther, a banking and finance graduate, used to work as a call center agent until her other daughter passed away due to an illness. After she separated from her husband, she was left with no choice but to quit her job to look after Gwyneth.

Doctors at Philippine General Hospital said Gwyneth suffers from mild retardation and needs to undergo therapy and continuous medication. For the therapy sessions and medicine, she would need at least P20,000 a month.

In the meantime, Gwyneth is enrolled in a special education school in Pandacan, Manila, to help her overcome her reading and speaking difficulties.

Esther can be reached at 0918-2342716. Those who want to help her with her daughter’s medical expenses can deposit their donations in her BDO account (account name Ester Hizon Nosotros, her maiden name) with account number 601853-906-2665439.
