Motorcycle rider killed in Cebu mishap

CEBU CITY, Philippines – A motorcycle back-rider was killed while the driver was injured when their motorcycle rammed into the railings at the center of the road in sitio (subvillage) Tacan, Barangay (village) Ibo, Lapu-Lapu City on Monday dawn.

The fatality, Michael Igot, 26, of barangay Bankal, Lapu-Lapu City, was pronounced dead on arrival at the Lapu-Lapu City District Hospital.

The driver, Rannie Aying, 28, also from Bankal, was transferred to Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City because of his serious injuries.

Traffic investigator Police Officer 2 Renato Llanes said the two came from Barangay Poblacion and was heading home at 2 am Monday when the driver lost control of the motorcycle and rammed into the railings.

Llanes said the two victims were thrown off the motorcycle. Igot, who did not wear a helmet, sustained severe head injuries.

Dr. Araceli Opura of the Lapu-Lapu City district hospital pronounced Igot dead upon his arrival at the hospital.
