Poetry readings on Feb. 15

THE Cathedral Museum of Cebu, in collaboration with Women in Literary Arts and the Halad Museum, will present a night of poetry and music to celebrate the Love Month.

“Gugma ug Pasalig (Love in Words and Music),” a two-part program of Cebuano and English poetry readings with musical intermission, will be held in the centennial garden of the Cathedral Museum of Cebu on Feb. 15 at 7 p.m.

Free dental mission

THE Cebu Dental Society, together with the Kanagawa Alliance of Dental Volunteers Overseas, will conduct its 30th annual free dental mission on Feb. 11 and 12 at Don Sergio Osmeña Memorial National High School in barangay Labangon, Cebu City.

Volunteers composed of Filipino and Japanese dentists will give dental services, such as cleaning, extraction, filling and prosthetics.

Around 1,500 patients are targeted to benefit from the mission, which also aims to educate the people about the importance of oral care and hygiene.

Cebu One Billion Rising  campaign ends on Feb. 14

THE Cebu One Billion Rising campaign, which will culminate on Feb. 14, V-Day’s 15th anniversary, will be held at the Ayala Center Cebu Terraces from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

It will be an afternoon of video presentations, songs, solidarity messages and ‘dancing.’

Statements of solidarity will be given by the conveners. Among them are Gabriela Women’s Party-Cebu, University of the Philippines Gender and Development office, Legal Alternatives for Women Inc., Bisdak Pride, Good Sheperd Welcome House, Antonio de Oviedo Center, Nagkahiusang Kusog sa Estudyante (NKE-UP Cebu), Student Alliance for Nationalism and Democracy-USC, and the Cebu Urban Poor Women’s League.

One Billion Rising is a global activist movement to end violence against women and girls that began as a call to action based on the staggering statistics that one in three women will be beaten or raped during her lifetime. With the world population at 7 billion, this adds up to more than one billion women and girls.
