Truck hits man, rams house, post

A speeding truck hit a man, rammed the side of a house and a power utility pole in sitio Tak-an, barangay Ibo, Lapu-Lapu City yesterday.

A vehicle parked nearby was also damaged after a steel bar from the truck fell on it.

The truck driver, Edwardson Padayhag, 37, of Lapu-Lapu City, and Eliseo Demotor, 28, were rushed to the hospital after sustaining injuries.

Investigation showed that Padayhag was driving an Isuzu Elf  truck along ML Quezon Highway from barangay Buaya when Demotor suddenly crossed the highway at 6:50 a.m.

Swerve to avoid man

Padayhag told PO1 Cesar Gabuli, traffic investigator,  that he swerved to the right to avoid Demotor but the truck still sideswiped Demotor who was thrown a few meters away.

The truck then slammed into the house and the power pole. The impact also caused a steel bar the truck was carrying to fall and land on a parked Kia Sportage owned by  Jessel Dongallo.

The impact of the crash destroyed the side of the house and broke the power pole causing its wires to sag.

Residents called the police and the paramedics of the Emergency Rescue Unit Foundation, who later brought Padayhag and Demotor to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Hospital in Cebu City for treatment.

PO1 Gabuli said Padayhag would face charges of  reckless imprudence resulting to physical injury and damage to property./Correspondent Norman V. Mendoza
