Vintage Selection wins
THE Vintage Ball Club Selection of Talisay City trounced Power Forty All Stars of coach Romy Rama, 106-99, last Saturday in a friendly match that highlighted the 22nd anniversary of Power Forty Basketball Association at the Emilio Jaca Memorial gym in barangay Inayawan, Cebu City.
Power 40 led, 20-18, in the opening period with the tandem of Joel Cañete and triggerman Jingjing Rama leading the charge.
Both camps battled evenly the rest of the way until Vintage pointguard Rickboy Nacario, bull-strong center Aikan Cabañero and power-forward Winston Gerali combined forces at endgame seal the seven-point victory.
Cabañero and Nacario led Vintage Ball Club with 25 points apiece while Gerali and Erik Cañedo combined for 30 points. Joel Cañete and three-point artist Jingjing Rama paced Power Forty with 30 and 18 points, respectively.
Right after the exhibition game, Jingjing Rama on behalf of his elder brother, Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama, handed out the trophies and medals to the top performing teams and individuals of the recent Power Forty Commissioner’s Cup basketball tournament.
Six-foot-four Jun Sumargo, a former SIT slotman and a member of the champion Van System team of Billy Nacario, won the coveted MVP award of the 2011 Power Forty Commissioner’s Cup.
