UNA is no stereotyped opposition – Binay
CALAUAN, Laguna, Philippines — Possibly spurred by calls from a member of the ruling party to decide whether the United Nationalist Alliance was an opponent or a supporter of the Aquino administration, Vice President Jejomar Binay on Thursday said that they should not be limited to the stereotyped “opposition.”
In his speech during the pre-campaign sortie in Calauan, Laguna, Binay questioned why people continued to pit him against President Benigno Aquino III.
UNA secretary general Navotas Representative Toby Tiangco has earlier described their coalition to be a “constructive opposition” which meant that they would support the government’s effective programs and reforms but would not hesitate to criticize when necessary.
“Panahon nang may tama at tunay na pananaw sa oposisyon (It’s high time to have a correct view of the opposition),” said Binay, adding that an opposition that always contradict every program of the government even if it is successful is “wrong.”
Eastern Samar Representative Ben Evardone recently called for UNA to make a stand because it was unfair that they were trying to get the best of both worlds.
