New classrooms for Asturias schools

The Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. (RAFI) recently completed the rehabilitation of four school buildings in Asturias, northwestern Cebu.

The four school buildings were turned over last Nov. 10 to Asturias Central School, Agbanga Elementary School, Agtugop Elementary School and Tag-amakan Elementary School.

RAFI’s school rehabilitation program was in partnership with the local government unit of Asturias and the Cebu provincial government.

RAFI shouldered the cost of construction materials, while Asturias and the Cebu provincial government shouldered the labor cost.

The teachers, parents and the community served as custodians of the construction materials throughout the repair period.

The project covered the painting of classrooms, installation of a two-piece concave-type blackboard and a toilet and lavatory in each classroom.

“RAFI is doing its best to help improve the physical structures of schools,” said Anthony Dignadice, RAFI Education Development Unit executive director.

The repair of 15 classrooms in four Asturias schools now brings to 507 the total number of classrooms in 34 towns in Cebu covered by RAFI’s school rehabilitation program since it started in 2004.

Asturias is one of the beneficiary municipalities of RAFI.
