Wayward taxi kills street cleaner

A STREET sweeper was killed while two pedestrians were injured after a wayward taxi hit them in barangay Pusok, Lapu-Lapu City.

Roberto Patalinghug Sr., 57, was declared dead at the Lapu-Lapu City Hospital.

Jesus Nacional, 25, and her sister Carolina Nacional, 35, was taken to the Chong Hua Hospital in Cebu City for treatment.

Tarcisio Rocolas Jr., 43, driver of Rosewin Taci with plate number GVY-498, told police that he fell asleep while driving causing him to hit the three victims early morning yesterday.

Police said Patalinghug was sweeping the road when he was hit by the wayward taxi which was headed for the Mactan Cebu International Airport.

After hitting Patalinghug, the taxi went on to hit the two siblings who were passing by the area.

Rocolas of barangay Banawa, Cebu City surrendered to the police after the accident.

Police said a charge of reckless imprudence resulting to homicide with multiple physical injuries and damage to property will be filed against Rocolas./CORRESPONDENT NORMAN V. MENDOZA
