P400,000-worth of ‘shabu’ seized by PDEA in Cebu

MANILA, Philippines—Roughly P400,000-worth of suspected methamphetamine hydrochloride, or “shabu” was seized by anti-narcotics agents in a buy-bust operation in Cebu Wednesday, a Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) official said Thursday.

PDEA Director General Undersecretary Arturo Cacdac Jr. said 129 plastic sachets of shabu, weighing approximately 55 grams, were recovered from suspected drug trader Gerald Joy “Intsik” Baguio, 24.

Cacdac said PDEA operatives hatched the transaction with Baguio and agreed to meet along the suspect’s neighborhood in Sitio Hawud, Barangay (village) Bulacao, Talisay City in Cebu aroun 3:15 a.m.

Cacdac said assorted drug paraphernalia and cash deposit slips were also recovered from Baguio.

“We had him [Baguio] under surveillance for some time because of his involvement in illegal drug activities in Talisay City. Pushers like Baguio, are classified from the bottom bracket (street-level) up to the higher level where he is now.  Fortunately, we caught him as a level one pusher,” Cacdac said.

He said case for violation of Section 5 (Sale of Dangerous Drugs), Section 11 (Possession of Dangerous Drugs) and Section 12 (Possession of Drug Paraphernalia), Article II of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 is being prepared for filing in court against Baguio.
