MANILA, Philippines – Heavy rains caused flooding in several areas Tuesday morning but the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority said most of the floods would subside whenever the rains stopped.
Michael Cuya of the MMDA Flood Control said they were particularly monitoring the area of Maria Clara Street and Araneta Avenue because of floods that have not let up because of the Talayan Creek. He said the flood in the area has reached 24 inches as of 11 a.m.
Rains also caused poor visibility and heavy traffic all over Metro Manila, said Tet Apelo of the MMDA Metrobase. She said it was moderate to heavy traffic along the southbound lane of EDSA particularly from Quezon Avenue to Ayala. Moderate traffic, she said, was monitored along the southbound lane of EDSA in Magallanes.
The northbound lane of EDSA also has its share of moderate to heavy traffic, said Apelo, like the area of Magallanes , Kalayaan to Guadalupe, Madison to Boni Serrano, and Quezon Avenue.
She said that traffic on the southbound lane of C5, particularly from CP Garcia to J. Escaler was moderate just like that along Ortigas Flyover to Bagong Ilog. The northbound lane of C5 from Katipunan to Ateneo Gate 3 was experiencing moderate to heavy traffic as well, Apelo stated.
Moderate traffic was also monitored along the westbound lane of the Marcos Highway from Bagong Ilog to Santolan, said Apelo, while heavy traffic was seen along Commonwealth to Tandang Sora (westbound) as well as the northbound lane of the Southern Luzon Expressway from Nichols to Magallanes.
