MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine National Police on Saturday allayed fears that the grenade blast in Greenhills, San Juan City, posed a threat to the historic signing of a preliminary peace agreement between the Philippine government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front in Malacañang on Monday.
“We don’t see any connection [to the signing] and [we are] in fact eyeing other suspects,” said PNP spokesperson Chief Superintendent Generoso Cerbo.
A grenade was thrown near the office of LK Holdings Corp., a real estate company, on Ortigas Ave. early Saturday morning.
Cerbo said that last April, the company filed qualified theft cases against three employees after millionsof pesos disappeared from the company.
The company offered a P50,000 reward for the arrest of three employees after a court issued warrants for their arrest.
Malacañang is to host Monday’s signing of the so-called Framework Agreement that is to serve as the blueprint for a final peace accord between the government and the MILF, which has been waging a bloody campaign for self-determination for decades.
President Benigno Aquino III, Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak, and Organization of Islamic Cooperation Secretary General Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu will lead the dignitaries invited to witness the event.
More than a hundred MILF rebels are also expected to attend.
