Explosion damages building near Greenhills shopping center
MANILA, Philippines—A grenade explosion damaged a building near the shopping center in Greenhills, San Juan before dawn Saturday, but no one was hurt, police said.
Police Officer 2 Eduardo Cabado of San Juan City police station 1 said a fragmentation hand grenade exploded at the LK Global Realty and Development Corp. at the basement of Bonaventure Plaza in Ortigas Avenue around 1:11 a.m.
He said security guards Danilo Serreno and Eduardo Ordono were on duty when they heard the explosion and saw smoke coming from the said office.
Radio reports said the door and some glass panels of the building’s basement area were damaged due to the impact of the explosion.
A team from the city police’s Explosive and Ordnance Disposal unit, Cabado said, responded to the area and recovered the safety lever of the grenade.
He said investigators have yet to identify the suspects behind the attack, as well as their motive, but radio reports said that one of the angles being looked into was a qualified theft case filed by the LK Global Realty and Development Corp. against three of its employees.
