Roxas halts demolition in Quezon City

/ 11:10 PM October 01, 2012

Interior Secretary Mar Roxas on Monday ordered the immediate suspension of the scheduled demolition of shanties in Sitio (subvillage) San Roque, Barangay (village) Pagasa, Quezon City.

Roxas said the Department of the Interior and Local Government has yet to receive any notice regarding the planned clearing operations on the property being occupied by thousands of informal settlers.

The 30-hectare area is being developed by the Quezon City government, the National Housing Authority and Ayala Land Inc. into a commercial district.

“We have to know if the parties concerned complied with the existing agreements and policies and if those who will be displaced will have relocation. We have to ensure that the demolition will be orderly and that those who must be given compensation will receive what is due them,” he said.—Marlon Ramos
