USC belles shut down UC’s semis bid in Cesafi volley
THE belles of last year’s runners-up, the University of San Carlos gained the needed momentum heading to today’s semifinal battles as they routed the University of Cebu in straight sets in the 12th Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (CESAFI) women’s volleyball tournament at the USC gym.
USC defeated UC, 25-20, 25-15, 25-15 and will take on powerhouse University of San Jose-Recoletos Lady Jaguars in today’s Final Four match.
The three-time defending champions, Southwestern University Lady Cobras tangle with the University of Southern Philippines Foundation in the other semis match-up.
In men’s action, the University of the Visayas marched to the Final Four with a, 21-15, 25-21, 25-17, 25-17 win over the Cebu Institute of Technology-University. The victory gave UV a date with the top-seeded USPF in the semis which starts at 9 a.m. at the same venue.
Reigning men’s titlists USC will be duking it out with an old foe, in USJ-R, in the other semis pairing.
In the girls’ division, the reigning champions, USJ-R, downed SWU, 26-24, 25-19, in a preview of the finals which will happen on Oct. 7. The boys’ finals will have the defending champions, USPF, taking on USJ-R. USPF has the psychological edge after besting USJ-R, 17-25, 25-13, 25-14 yesterday. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
