Son nabbed for trying to kill parents

MANILA, Philippines – A 25-year-old man was arrested Saturday after he allegedly attempted to kill his parents, stabbing his mother and mauling his father, inside their own home in Quezon City.

Jonathan Bangui of Pugad Lawin, Barangay Bahay Toro in Project 8 was reportedly drunk when he allegedly assaulted his parents Juliet, 59, and Jerry, 73, while they were sleeping inside their bedroom.

The couple was confined at the Quezon City General Hospital for treatment of wounds they sustained from their son’s attack.

SPO1 Charles Jallores, of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Cubao station said that the incident happened at around 3 am, Saturday inside the elderly Bangui couple’s room.

Jallores said Jonathan barged into his parents’ room and in a drunken rage allegedly started beating up Jerry. When his mother tried to pacify him, the suspect drew a fan knife and allegedly stabbed her in the body.

The septuagenarian was able to grab his son enabling the wounded Julie to run and seek help from their neighbors. Jonathan was subdued by their neighbors and was turned over to the custody of responding policemen while his parents were rushed to the nearest hospital.

The suspect was detained at the Cubao police station holding cell pending the filing of a charge of two counts of frustrated parricide against him before the city prosecutor’s office.
