Gunman drank coffee before shooting restaurant owner dead

ROXAS CITY, Philippines – A businessman was shot dead last Saturday inside his restaurant on Kilometer One Street in Roxas City, Capiz.

Wilson Tiongson, who was also the barangay (village) chairman of the Bita in Dao town, suffered three gunshot wounds in the chest and bullet wounds in the hands.

Tiongson was a known businessman in Capiz. He was a  supplier of construction materials in the city and other parts of the province.

Police said Tiongson was sitting at the cashier’s table on Saturday morning when an unidentified man walked into his Bambooland Restaurant and ordered coffee.

After an hour, he casually went to the cashier’s table, pulled out a gun from his waist and shot the victim, according to police reports.

The perpetrator then walked out of the restaurant and boarded a motorcycle, driven by a companion who was waiting outside.

Tiongson was brought to the Capiz Emmanuel Hospital here in Roxas where he later died.

Supt. Salvador Dagoon Jr., Roxas police chief, said he learned that the victim had received death threats in the past week but chose not to report it.
