Glenn Donaire to fight Mexican Soto in Florida
GLENN “The Filipino Bomber” Donaire (19W-4L-1D, 10KOs) will face Omar “Lobito” Soto (22W-9L-2D, 15KOs) of Mexico for the vacant WBO-North American Boxing Organization (NABO) flyweight title on Sept. 14 at the A La Carte Event Pavilion in Tampa, Florida.
Glenn is the older brother of Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire, the WBO/IBF super bantamweight world champion. They spent their early childhood years here in the Philippines before immigrating to California.
The 32 year-old Soto has lost to world champions like Muhamad Rachman of Indonesia, Roman Gonzales of Nicaragua and Omar Narvaez of Argentina. He also lost to Brian Viloria two years ago by split decision in a non-title fight held in Pasig City.
The 32 year-old Donaire has won twice since coming back from a three year hiatus. He stopped Alex Sanchez in eight rounds last December in Florida and beat Omar Salado by unanimous decision in Mexico last March. /Correspsondent Rene Bonsubre Jr.
