MANILA, Philippines— Justice Secretary Leila de Lima on Wednesday gave credence to the claim that convicted murderer Rolito Go was abducted, saying evidence gathered so far pointed to this theory.

However, De Lima said Go, his nephew Clemence Yu and Go’s sister should undergo a lie detector test.

De Lima met with National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Director Nonatus Rojas to discuss findings surrounding the disappearance of Go.

Go went missing Tuesday last week after he failed to appear at a headcount on August 14.

Go surfaced on Thursday last week claiming that he and Clemence Yu had been taken to Batangas. The abductors demanded a ransom of P50 million but later reduced it to P1 million. The two were released after Yu gave their abductors P40, 000.

“’Yon talaga ang result so far but we want to be careful. It’s not yet conclusive, although evidence so far tends to show that the claim of abduction is legitimate or bonafide,” De Lima said.

De Lima and Rojas said Go’s testimony appeared consistent insofar as the major points are concerned.

She said that while they are not discounting the possibility of a “kidnap-me” angle, “to be honest, mukhang remote ’yon.”

De Lima added that they also managed to confirm that Go was at the NBP on Tuesday contrary to speculations that the kidnapping incident was a coverup because Go had been missing for days.

De Lima and Rojas will also meet with the Philippine National Police for a case conference to compare their findings.
