‘Igme’ weakens as it moves towards Taiwan

MANILA, Philippines—Typhoon “Igme” (international codename: Tembin) has slightly weakened as it continued to move towards Taiwan, the state weather bureau said Wednesday.

The Batanes group of islands, which was under public storm warning signal number 2, will experience rains with gusty winds and its coastal waters will be rough to very rough, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said.

As of 4 p.m. Igme was located 290 kilometers northeast of Basco, Batanes with maximum sustained winds of 130 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 160 kph. It was slowly moving west northwest at 7kph.

Igme was forecast to be out of the Philippine territory by Friday afternoon when it was forecast to be about 370 km north northwest of Basco, Batanes.

Meanwhile, another cyclone poised to enter the country named “Bolaven,” was packing maximum winds of 140 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 170 kph. It was located 1,470 km east of extreme northern Luzon.

It will be called Julian once it enters the Philippines.
