2 suspected robbers killed in Manila

MANILA, Philippines—Two suspected robbers were killed after engaging in a shootout with police authorities a little before midnight Monday, police said Tuesday.

Senior Police Officer 3 Rodelio Lingcong said the still unidentified robbers were killed after a passer-by reported to authorities allegedly seeing the two victimizing a truck driver along Road 10 in Zaragosa Street, Tondo, Manila around 11:40 p.m. Monday.

One of the still unidentified suspects was described to be around 35 years old, standing 5’5”, wearing blue t-shirt and brown short pants, while the other, who was estimated to be around 35 to 37 years old, stood 5’7”, he said.

Initial investigation, Lingcong said, revealed that the 10-wheeler truck driven by victim Victor Delfin with his passenger Jerry Zaldivia was parked along the area when the suspects arrived and declared the heist at gunpoint, even hitting Delfin in his head.

A passer-by claimed to have seen the incident and reported it to police authorities, he said, adding that the suspects were already about to escape when responding cops arrived at the scene.

The suspects allegedly open fired, prompting authorities to return fire which eventually resulted to the death of the suspects.

He said further investigation is now underway to identify the slain thieves.
