‘Gift of Life’ for kids with heart ailment

The Perpetual Succour Hospital (PSH) has entered into an agreement with the Rotary Club of Cebu for the “Gift of Life” program.

The program, which began in 2007, will help children with heart ailment avail of medical treatment.

The club, headed by its president Oscar Jereza Jr., will shoulder the hospital expenses of the patients, while the hospital will provide the cardiologists and the facilities needed for the surgical procedure.

To qualify for the procedure, patients must undergo a pre-screening at the PSH.

This year, the program successfully operated on the three children, namely Nelbert Ybarrita, Aaliyah Faith Perpetua and Devine Miano.

Ybarrita, a 1-year-old child from Negros Oriental, was operated on May 27. Perpetua, six months old and Miano, three months old, were operated last June 24.

The three were diagnosed with congenital heart disease-patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) and underwent PDA ligation.
